The purpose of this blog is two-fold: firstly, it’s to help parents decide whether I’m the right child psychologist for you and your family. As with many areas of expertise, it’s not uncommon to find very different views and opinions on how best to fix a problem, and this is very much the case when it comes to Child Psychologists. So this blog is about giving parents an understanding of what to expect when they’ve made an appointment to see me for the first time, but also for those parents whom have tried ‘psychology’ before, to let you know that not all psychologists are the same.
The second reason for this blog is to help parents navigate their way through the minefield that is modern-day parenting! Parents are inundated with advice from parenting experts, and to be honest, I’m continually surprised (to say the least!) at the quality of some of the advice given. Parenting experts, be they psychologists, psychotherapists, doctors, academics or parents, should always keep in mind that the advice should always be backed by scientific research, and not on biased research findings, or even worse, simply based on popular opinion.
So this blog is about questioning some of this advice, by taking a very close look at what the research actually tells us, and by doing so, hopefully providing parents with the information they need to make up their own mind as to how to parent their children.
